The US EV market in 2030 is strategically important for OEMs, Suppliers, and Customers. In this analytics series, this part provides technical analysis of the US EV market from trend to forecast.

Semiconductors, Power Module packaging companies, and Inverters have begun targeting the 800V architecture in the US and European EV markets. The market share of the 800V models increased from 0.7% to 13.8% between 2021 and 2024. In 2025, the 800V EV architecture slightly decreases. The 800V technology has several benefits, but it is 10 to 15K USD more expensive than the 400V models. The 800V Models use only SiC semiconductors, which have supply constraints and are more expensive than Si or IGBTs.

On average, the 400V models are more efficient than the 800V models. However, the 800V models are more efficient for a specific vehicle body type, such as a crossover. It is mainly a matter of the technology’s suitability. When suppliers forecast, the EV body style matters. and the body style is a function of several factors in the buyer and the market.

SiC MOSFETs commanded 84.5% of the 2025 US EV market by units. However, it is dominant mainly due to Tesla’s market share. We have developed various scenarios for SiC demand analysis by 2030.

The SiC platform charge rate is high. When it combines with an 800V architecture, it is a significantly high charge. Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia are the first to adopt this technology in their vehicles.

In 2025, sales are increasing steadily, with moderate month-on-month fluctuations. There is strong positive customer sentiment towards electric cars.

Indian Brands like Tata and Mahindra are dominating the Indian Electric Car market. The new models, emotional bond, and product-market fit are among the key reasons behind this trend.

Indian Electric Car brands registered 68%, Chinese 260% and Korean brands’ sales grew by 423%. Indian Brands lost 12% of their market share, while Chinese brands gained 12%, including JSW MG.

Tata Motors’ market share slipped from 68% to 40% over the last 22 months due to competitors launching new models in the same segment. Mahindra, JSW MG, and Kia gain market share with a moderate zigzag pattern.

Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, and BMW could not align with market trends, resulting in almost stagnant market share.

Tesla sold 109 Electric cars in September and October, and Vinfast also crossed 100 in a single month’s sales. Hyundai Electric car sales increased by around 2X compared to Jan 2024.

Bajaj Auto Scooter has a robust product and is reliable in its category. This provides a safe, confident ride. Its body is metallic, giving stability.

On the other hand, Ola Scooter sales continue to decline due to various factors, including poor after-sales support and competitors’ new model launches. Social media was flooded with negative customer support issues with Ola.

Ather and TVS Motors have different product USP and lead in some specific segments. Ather sales decreased by 33% in October 25 compared to October 24.  Ather also has clarity on the product road map. Due to TVS’s dense network, TVS successfully penetrated even rural areas in a short time. Young buyers in urban areas prefer Ather.

Indian Electric car sales increased by 17% in October 2025 compared to last year’s. YTD growth registered 80% on October 25 due to the launch of a New Model, Awareness of the Electric Car’s key features, and low operating costs. The penetration of electric cars decreased by 0.4% even during the festive season because the maximum price cut was for ICE Cars. This widens the price gap between Electric Cars and ICE cars.

Electric Two-Wheeler Sales Up 38% Despite 3.5% Share Dip:

The Electric Two Wheeler sales rose by 38% due to the festive season in October 2025, compared to the previous 2025. However, YTD sales increased by just 3% on October 25. During every year’s festive season, the sales of the Electric Scooter were at their peak.

Electric Truck Sales Up 27% in October 2025:

Indian Electric Truck sales increased by 27% in October 2025 compared to September 2025. The YTD sales rose by 254%.

Electric Bus Sales in October 2025:

Indian Electric Bus sales dropped by 24% in October 2025, but recently, a new tender was issued to procure new Electric Buses.

In some areas, electric bus sales have peaked due to bulk purchases. The overall trend looks volatile.
