Mahindra Automotive Variants-level Sales and Forecast covered all Automotive segments, such as SUV, Truck, Bus, Three-Wheeler, and Construction Equipment.

27% of all Mahindra Automotive variants contributed 50% of sales in CY 2025. The XUV 700, Furio, Scorpio Thar, Jeeto MAXX, Alfa, and TREO come in various variants, and some are in demand for their price points, features, performance, and maintenance costs.

Mahindra registered more than 1,000 variants across its automotive segments in CY 2019. Post-COVID, Mahindra product planning has been optimized through the launch of new models across various segments. In the last 6 years, Mahindra Sales have increased, but the number of variants is lower than in CY 2019. Mahindra sales are ~2X in CY 2025 compared to CY 2019. Mahindra registered (Retail sales) 956,337 units in CY 2025. The sales included SUVs, Pickups, Buses, Trucks, Mini Trucks, LCVs, electric three-wheelers, and Construction Equipment.

In the Heavy Duty Truck segment, Bulker is popular among fleet owners due to its suitability for cement and Fly Ash transport applications. The key reason is that, in this application, the Mahindra Tractor trailer has better mileage than other models.

Bolero is the leading Mahindra model, but not all Bolero variants are not top sellers; only 3 are customers’ preferred choices. It is because these 3 variants offer the best value and have greater competitive advantages.

This macro-level data shows that variant-level sales data is required to understand product-market fit.

The further Mahindra SML Isuzu acquisition required a sharp product, Brand, and Sales strategy to win the white space in the market. Product position is one of the key challenges for both companies. Our RTO- and Variant-wise Indian Automotive Sales reflect the pulse of the Indian Automotive Industry.

The US EV Market 2030 is a detailed analysis that covers OEMs, Suppliers, Customers, Forecast, and competitor analytics. The US EV market grew by 24.5% from 2021 to 2025. But the growth from 2024 to 2025 was just 3.9%. In 2025, the After the IRA tax credit expires in Oct 2025. Afterward, the BEV segment share declined due to reduced demand in the price-sensitive segment. Across our 3 scenarios, the CAGR from 20206 to 2030 will be mostly in double digits.

The US EV market in 2030 is strategically important for OEMs, Suppliers, and Customers. In this analytics series, this part provides technical analysis of the US EV market from trend to forecast.

Semiconductors, Power Module packaging companies, and Inverters have begun targeting the 800V architecture in the US and European EV markets. The market share of the 800V models increased from 0.7% to 13.8% between 2021 and 2024. In 2025, the 800V EV architecture slightly decreases. The 800V technology has several benefits, but it is 10 to 15K USD more expensive than the 400V models. The 800V Models use only SiC semiconductors, which have supply constraints and are more expensive than Si or IGBTs.

On average, the 400V models are more efficient than the 800V models. However, the 800V models are more efficient for a specific vehicle body type, such as a crossover. It is mainly a matter of the technology’s suitability. When suppliers forecast, the EV body style matters. and the body style is a function of several factors in the buyer and the market.

SiC MOSFETs commanded 84.5% of the 2025 US EV market by units. However, it is dominant mainly due to Tesla’s market share. We have developed various scenarios for SiC demand analysis by 2030.

The SiC platform charge rate is high. When it combines with an 800V architecture, it is a significantly high charge. Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia are the first to adopt this technology in their vehicles.

Efficiency is the key to Tesla’s dominance in the EV market. Hyundai Ioniq 6, BMW i4, and Lucid 924V SIC are also highly efficient Electric car models. Many factors contribute to efficiency, such as dynamics, software, Weight, Heat management, etc.

The US EV Market is moving towards the premium segment. This is an interesting insight: buyers are more focused on value than just the price tag.

Architecture type Forecast 2030:

The 800V architecture is expected to reach 15 to 20% by 2030, depending on battery prices. If the EV price comes down to around 30-35K USD, this technology will see widespread adoption among buyers.

SiC will continue to gain market share regardless of the scenario, driven by its technical benefits and supplier promotion.

We have prepared detailed plans for designing an Electric Car Entry Strategy for the Indian Market. Various Market dynamics have been considered in this strategic GTM report. OEMs, Suppliers, and Charging Infrastructure are ready beyond 2030. The Electric Car market will offer a desirable option across almost all segments. Having the strategic blueprint for the Electric Car in India ensures success, drives cost savings, establishes the brand, and achieves the desired results. The Entry strategy is supported by our exclusive model-variant sales data for electric cars.

We analysed why customers are buying the Tata Nexon, MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3, Citroen eC3, and Mahindra XUV 400 EV models. How Maruti is positioned to gain a firm grip on the Electric Car in India and its launch strategy.

VinFast launched new models at attractive prices and adopted a multichannel sales approach.

For example:

How Tata & Mahindra Redefined Themselves as Car Brands is the most inspiring Analytics report on the Automotive Industry.

How Best to manage brands for profit on every sale of the vehicle? It comes from our analysis: willingness to pay more for your brands, even when competitors are cheaper. So, what is the reason that customers are willing to pay more? Because of the trust and bond you created over time in the customer’s minds. Now the question comes, how to win the customer’s trust?

With the growing purchasing power of Indian Buyers and their willingness to pay for premium cars like the Harrier and XUV platform, the car segment moved into a Market reset.

Tata Motors and Mahindra were able to achieve (1) a point of difference simultaneously on
performance and Technology, and a point-of-parity on perceived luxury with respect to luxury cars, and (2) a point-of-difference on perceived luxury and a point-of-parity on performance and Technology with respect to performance cars.

Tata Motors and Mahindra are now ruling the roost among car buyers in India. Once, Tata vehicles were used in the Taxi industry, such as the Tata Indica or Sumo. Exceptionally, the Tata Safari and Tata Sierra had a different customer base. Now, Tata cars and SUVs are the favourite choice to drive.

The goal of this study is to learn how the Tata and Mahindra brands created and dominated new subcategories and why competitors stood by and watched. Another prospect of this study is how OEMs such as Volkswagen, Renault, Nissan, and Skoda can adapt their brand strategy to win customers’ hearts and minds.

In 2022, Mahindra made a big bet on Electric car technology by launching the XUV 400 EV. In 2024, another big bet on another electric car for Indian customers.

Tata Motors expanded the EV technology to other models, such as the Safari, Harrier, and Punch, after launching the Tigor EV in 2017. Also, the Harrier enhanced Tata’s position as the most innovative brand in India.

Mahindra and Tata observed that car owners in India were becoming more mature and affluent and challenged their organizations to “create a luxury car to challenge the very best ”—a challenge that led to the XUV, Safari, Harrier, Altroz, Curvv, and other models.

Mahindra and Tata integrated innovative features and improvements to make their USP to meet customer expectations.

Tata and Mahindra provided not only functional benefits but also the self-expressive benefit of doing something about the energy and global warming crises.

In 2024, over half of the Mahindra and Tata buyers in our customer survey expressed that the main reason they purchased the car and SUV was that “ it makes a statement about me”.

Brand Position: Tata Motors and Mahindra

Both companies changed the promise of their brand from Economy to premium luxury car. Tata and Mahindra understood that the brand is not just a company communicating or telling buyers or the market what it is. But what one customer is speaking to others about these brands.

Indian Buyers want to feel positive about both Brand experience, such as Brand Smell, Social, Feel, Engagement, Love, Think, and Emotion. It is not the same as we consider Volkswagen or Nissan on the scale.

It’s not only product performance or attributes. Brand is your friend. To win a friend’s trust, you must earn it; if the customer considers you a friend, you are already trustworthy. You are not only aware of the brand, but you also know how it fits into your world.

Just saying: Brand positioning does not deliver the expected results, but Experiential brand positioning works and delivers exceptional results.

Similarly, only the Brand promise line does not impact the buyers, but the Experiential brand Value Promise builds trust.

Mahindra uses Ingredient branding in the promotion; however, Tata uses Ingredient branding indirectly to win the buyers’ trust.

Indian Electric Car Sales registered 57% in October 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year. In the last 22 months, the Electric Car market in India has grown by 115%.

In 2025, sales are increasing steadily, with moderate month-on-month fluctuations. There is strong positive customer sentiment towards electric cars.

Indian Brands like Tata and Mahindra are dominating the Indian Electric Car market. The new models, emotional bond, and product-market fit are among the key reasons behind this trend.

Indian Electric Car brands registered 68%, Chinese 260% and Korean brands’ sales grew by 423%. Indian Brands lost 12% of their market share, while Chinese brands gained 12%, including JSW MG.

Tata Motors’ market share slipped from 68% to 40% over the last 22 months due to competitors launching new models in the same segment. Mahindra, JSW MG, and Kia gain market share with a moderate zigzag pattern.

Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, and BMW could not align with market trends, resulting in almost stagnant market share.

Tesla sold 109 Electric cars in September and October, and Vinfast also crossed 100 in a single month’s sales. Hyundai Electric car sales increased by around 2X compared to Jan 2024.

Volvo Cars, which was leading the conversion of its portfolio to electric cars, saw sales decline by more than 50% from January 2024 to October 2025.

The Indian Passenger Vehicle market declined by 1.4%, the car segment decreased by 5.8%, and combined sales of SUVs and MUVs registered minor growth of 0.7% in H1 FY 2026 compared to H1 FY 2025. In the same period, Production of the Indian Passenger Vehicle grew by 3.8%, and exports grew by 18.4% in the first half of the current financial year.

In Q2 FY 2026, Car sales in India declined by 11.2% compared to Q2 FY 2025. SUV and MUV combined sales grew by 3.8% in Q1 FY 2026. In the first half of FY 2026, passenger vehicle exports were around 0.2 M units.

The sales declined because the Demand for the Value Plus segment decreased.

Indian PV Brand-wise Market Share in H1 FY 2026:

In Q2 FY 2026, Car sales in India registered a 11.2% degrowth compared to Q2 FY 2025. The SUV and MUV combined sales grew by 3.8% in Q1 FY 2026. The passenger vehicle exports were around 0.2M units in the first half of FY 2026. Under the new market dynamics, it is challenging for Maruti Suzuki to increase or keep its existing market share. In H1 FY 2026, Maruti lost 2% market share.

Hyundai, which has a firm grip on the Indian car and SUV market, lost 1% of its market share in the first half of the financial year.

Mahindra continuously increases its market share by launching new models with digital technology features. Toyota and Skoda are the other brands that increased their market share in H1 FY 2026 compared to H1 FY 2025.

Skoda, Kia, Mahindra, and Toyota sales grew by 55%, 3%, 13%, and 9% in H1 FY 2026 compared to the last half of the financial year.

BYD Monthly Car Sales Trend:

BYD sales are growing in India because of its attractive looks and price point. The company registered 82% growth in the last nine months of 2025. The monthly sales of BYD Electric cars have had a zigzag pattern. Its performance and design are adding value.

BYD’s 38% sales are coming from Delhi and Maharashtra. This shows that its customers are mainly in metro cities; Ahmedabad is also a growing market for the company. Our Electric Car survey found that 66% of potential buyers have struggled to get a demo for the last three months.

Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu contributed 32% of sales in the first nine months of 2025. However, these five states have a 70% market share for BYD in India.

The company’s average over the last three months has been around 500 cars per month. During the festive season, BYD Electric car sales grew by 19.3% in September 2025 compared to the previous month.

Indian Car Product Strategy is the backbone of success in the Indian Car, SUV, MUV, and Van segments.

Launching New models can significantly impact sales. In 2024, 29% of SUV Models were newly launched, 22% of MUV Models were newly launched, and only 11% of car Models were newly launched. Compared to 2014, new launches increased in 2024 due to rapid changes in customer expectations, Technological Upgradation, infotainment, and the rising spending power of buyers.

Our Product Matrix provides key insight into how Car Brands are present in each segment and how to make it effective.

In the Indian Car Product Strategy, the following points will be covered:

Current Product Portfolio and which product needs to be developed in the short and long term

What are the Market segment, their characteristics, and which market segment need to be focused on

How to differentiate the product

Current pricing position and future trend

Assessment of buyers’ needs

Success and Failure Case Study

What should be the position and messaging

Brand Strategy

74% of sales are coming from the 1000 cc to 1500 cc Engine product category. 54% of variants have the engine size between 1000 and 1500cc. The 1500 to 2000cc segment is a highly competitive segment.

New Product Launches:

Mahindra, Tata Motors, Maruti, and Hyundai focused on the 1000cc to 1500cc segment to launch new cars, SUVs, and multi-utility vehicles (MUVs) because it is the largest segment in India.

Buyers are expecting a high-capacity Engine because of a better driving experience. SUV C, SUV D, and SUV E are the most significant segments due to their demand among buyers in India.

Brand-wise Competitive Analysis of Indian Car, SUV, and MUV Segment Product Strategy:

Hyundai and Kia are targeting an 80% similar customer segment. However, there are certain advantages to such a product position as well. Product overlapping has short-term benefits because there is limited choice at the time of product upgradation.

Mahindra offers uniform variants across all major segments, as shown in the chart below.

Maruti Suzuki primarily focuses on the 1000cc to 1500cc segment because it targets buyers who are willing to pay between 5 and 12 lakhs.

Volkswagen’s product strategy is aligned with market trends, but the brand is facing other critical issues.

Tata Motors also offers multiple variants in the 1000- to 1500-cc engine segment.

Approximately 200 models are available in the Car, SUV, MUV, and Van segments in India in 2024. The corresponding variants of the 210 models are around 1600 plus. The Indian passenger Market has a wide range of offerings for customers—4.2 million Passenger vehicles were sold in 2024.

Variant-wise Indian Car and SUV Sales and Product Data are available with the latest updates. Variants of Cars, SUVs, and MUVs play an essential role in product and Sales Strategy because they show the product position. Earlier, the top-end model was not as popular; however, this trend has since changed.

Some variants offer different price points to cater to various customer segments.

Overall, business performance has been impacted by the distribution of variants for each Model.

For OEMs and Startups:

Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai, and Mahindra are offering the maximum number of Variants. Only the top 4 brands offer more than 50% of the variants. These are the Top brands in the Indian Passenger vehicle Market in 2024. Others, such as MG, Toyota, and Kia, have a 5% share in the Indian PV market.

Some variants are popular and a good example of product-market fit.

In terms of Models, Mercedes and BMW have a wide model range, which includes the right product mix.

Some Models have an overlap among the Affordable, ValuePlus, Premium, Luxury, and High-end segments. However, the Model perception for buyers is also essential, as it influences the product’s position in the customer’s mind.

The variants have a different price bracket. Our Indian Indian Variants-wise Car Data provides the price band of each model and its product position.

Passenger Vehicle Segment: Car, SUV, and MUV

In the Car segment, Maruti has the highest number of variants, followed by Tata Motors, Hyundai, and others, including Bentley, Porsche, and Skoda. Maruti is the leading brand in the Indian Car segment because it has been producing sustainable cars for decades.

The SUV segment is the fastest-growing segment in India. Hyundai, Mahindra, and Tata Motors have the most significant number of variants, as all three brands are aggressive in their efforts to gain market share in the SUV segment.

Toyota, Kia, and Maruti are leading brands in the Indian multi-utility vehicle (MUV) segment. This segment presents an attractive opportunity for new brands seeking to expand their business, as only three brands currently hold a significant market share.

Maruti Suzuki is losing market share due to a lack of new product launches, High competition from local players like Mahindra and Tata Motors, and customers’ preference for premium and luxury cars, SUVs, and others.

There is a zigzag pattern in Maruti Suzuki’s Sales growth and regrowth from 2014 to 2024.

Small and Affordable car portfolio was the biggest USP for Maruti. In the current scenario, it has become the biggest challenge. Maruti Suzuki is losing its grip on the common man’s preferred car choice.

Maruti Suzuki is losing market share because its small, affordable, and value-plus cars market share has declined. In 2014, the affordable car segment held a 12% market share, which decreased to just 1% by 2024. Similarly, the Value Plus segment accounted for 63% of the market in 2014, but its share contracted to 48% by 2024. Maruti Suzuki was known for Small and affordable cars. This was one of the reasons that it commanded the Indian passenger Market for decades. In both segments, Maruti Suzuki had a market share of 5% and 37.5% in 2014. In 2024, the company lost grip on both segments. The Maruti lost 10% of its market share in the Value Plus segment and 4% in the Affordable car segment from 2014 to 2024. The overall Indian car and SUV market is moving towards the premium and luxury segments.

To regain the market share, there are two key options:

Promote affordable Cars like Alto and try to change the market demand

Align with the market dynamics, accept it, change the Brand perception, and create a product portfolio

Both options are challenging because changing market demand is difficult; usually, this is the approach taken by European OEMs in India. The customer mindset, Economics, per capita income, social life, and culture all have a combined impact on the market dynamics.

Finding space in the premium and luxury segments is also challenging because numerous successful car and SUV models are already present. Brand perception also plays a crucial role in purchase decisions.

Maruti Suzuki Product Strategy:

Maruti needs to enhance its presence in the Premium and Luxury segments. The future trend indicates that these two segments will have impressive growth.

The company needs to work on the Electric car segment as well to maintain its momentum and market share.

Currently, there are no Cars and SUVs available in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio if buyers upgrade their vehicle to the premium or Luxury segment.

Tata Motors and Mahindra are examples of how they changed the brand perception among Indian buyers. Both Brands are well accepted by customers. Customers are willing to pay a premium for their cars and SUVs.
