Peak Shaving Strategy is the process of optimizing electricity demand by intelligently managing and combining several components.</p>
<p>By optimizing the highest simultaneous grid demand and avoiding energy use during expensive peak periods, the depot notably reduces its electricity bill by 48% while maintaining normal charging operations under specific conditions.</p>
<p>With PM E-DRIVE subsidy support, the <strong>payback</strong> period is around <strong>10 years</strong>, with a<strong> 43.4%</strong> return on investment, saving <strong>3.4 crore</strong> and gaining <strong>1.03 crore</strong>.  The payback period is around 7 years.</p>

<p>But when we changed the category B municipal public charging model, it made the investment attractive. Higher subsidy support, improved CAPEX, high charger utilization, and improved revenue and profit exceeding 2 lakhs reduced <strong>payback</strong> by <strong>2 to 3 years</strong> and increased <strong>IRR</strong> to <strong>35%</strong>.</p>
<h3><strong>Business case for Electric Bus Depot Charging:</strong></h3>
<p>The proposed Category B PM E-DRIVE model positions CPO as the charging infrastructure partner for an STU. STU acts as an eligible nodal agency. This is an effective Business model because of government support, CPO operational efficiency, and a long-term service contract.</p>
<p>The PM E-DRIVE improved ROI by reducing the upfront <strong>CAPEX</strong>; the STU-CPO long-term partnership is a win-win business case.  There is a positive impact on profitability due to high utilization. A 100-bus electric depot consumes approximately 8.58 GWh of electricity per year. We assume 25 CCS-II 250 kW fast chargers for this specific business case.</p>

<h3><strong>Business &amp; Revenue Models: Public Charger</strong></h3>
<p>The financial assessment indicates that PM E-DRIVE significantly improves the payback period and profitability. Even under conservative assumptions, the Charging project can achieve payback in <strong>4.5 years</strong>. If efficient operation, optimized capital costs, and energy management are achieved, the payback period can be reduced to 2.4 years, <strong>IRR</strong> increases from <strong>29.7</strong>% to <strong>30.5</strong>%, and <strong>NPV</strong> improves by about <strong>2.8%</strong>.
