Indonesia Vehicle Industry overview 2015

Indonesia is the largest economy of South East Asia region. It is world's 10th largest economy in terms of PPP and the member of G-20. Its passenger vehicle sales forecast for year 2015 would be around 900,000 units due to some recent development in macro economy of the country, Industry like palm oil, Mining industry Exchange rate against US Dollar and slow employment growth.

Recently it sold its Eicher stake and make 2.4 Billion SEK.The company is having a strong hold in Light & Medium duty truck market. Company is planning to enter into Small Commercial Vehicle segment also and improving its performance in heavy-duty truck segment. In China it alliance with Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle and formed new company DFCV. Volvo acquires 45% stake in Dongfeng CV. The deal consideration amounted to RMB 5.5 billion. The Company is having a strong hold in Heavy and Medium duty truck segment in the Chinese market. It sold 62,788 units from Jan to July 2015. Chinese truck market is the largest market in the world with around 800,000 of Heavy duty segment units and Medium duty truck around 300,000 units in 2014. Recently market correction has been started which will impact on its outlook.

Tata Motors Sales increased by 5% in April 2015 compare to April 2014. It export registered 18% growth and total sales increased by 7%. This growth mainly driven from its M&HCV segment of commercial vehicle. In Passenger car segment, Company is trying once again to re enter in market with New GenX Nano. Recently Tata Motors entered in African market by launching its premium PRIMA range in Kenya. When Tata Motors entered into South African market it was successful entry but sales support became key issue for the company. Its Marcopolo brand is also in a demand in North African countries specially in Tourist application.

Eicher commercial vehicle sales is in cyclic order. In FY 2008-09, it sold 17,341 vehicle including Truck and Bus. In FY 2014-15 it sold 35,445 units and registered 4.2% growth. FY 2011-12 was one of the best year for Eicher.The company is strong in LCV segment. Its heavy truck portfolio for off road application still need some new products to penetrate this segment. In Haulage segment it is having strong grip, Pro Series introduced to fill this product gap in Tipper and Tractor (Long Haulage). Premium brand Volvo sold 102 units in FY15 compare to 105 units in FY 2014, de growth of 2.9%.
