The overall sales of three wheelers for the first half of FY 2013-14 stood at 239,539 units against 250,507 units sold during the same period of previous financial year, registering 4.4% de-growth. The sales of three wheelers passenger vehicles declined by 4% at 196,657 units in first half of FY 2013-14 against 204,930 units for HY1 FY 2012-13. Total sales of three wheeler goods vehicles stood at 42,882 units for HY1 FY 2013-14 against 45,577 units in HY1 FY 2012-13 registering 5.9% drop.


Among the manufacturers, Bajaj Auto saw their sales decline by 3% in HY1 FY 2013-14 with 98,885 units sold against 101,884 units sold in HY1 FY 2012-13. Piaggio sales are down by 5% while Mahindra witness their sales decline by 8%. Atul Auto is the only manufacturer to register positive sales growth of 18% in HY1 FY 2013-13 with 16,922 sales units against 14,284 units in HY1 FY 2012-13.

Market leaders Bajaj Auto keep their share stable at 41% for HY1 FY 2013-14 against HY1 FY 2012-13 and same can be said for Piaggio who holds 35% market share. Atul Auto gained 1 point and holds 7% market share in HY1 FY 2013-14.

Passenger Segment

Bajaj saw their sales decline by 1% in passenger three wheeler segments for HY1 FY 2013-14 at 98,830 units against 99,881 units sold during HY1 FY 2012-13. They lead this segment with 50% market share for HY1 FY 2013-14, increase from 49% during HY1 FY 2012-13. Second biggest passenger three wheeler manufacturer Piaggio sales are down by 5% during HY1 FY 2013-14 at 60,368 units against 63,851 units in HY1 FY 2012-13. Their market share remains stagnant at 31% for HY1 FY 2013-14.

Atul Auto posted 31% growth in this segment with 10,033 units in HY1 FY 2013-14 against 7,647 units sold in HY1 FY 2012-13.Their market share came up to 5% share for HY1 FY 2013-14 which was 4% during HY1 FY 2012-13.

Goods Segment

The three wheeler goods segment saw Piaggio sales decline by 3% at 23,554 units in HY1 FY 2013-14 against 24,266 units in HY1 FY 2012-13. They also gained points in market share and take it to 55% for HY1 FY 2013-14 against 53% in HY1 FY 2012-13. Sales for Mahindra in the segment grow by 3% at 9,084 units against 8,794 units during HY1 FY 2012-13.

Atul Auto posted 4 % growth in the three wheeler goods segment and witnessed their market share at 16% for HY1 FY 2013-14 which was 15% in HY1 FY 2012-13.

    We predict this decline may ends soon and Automotive Industry will come in to its own glory . Let treat this as correction in the market to give some time to other factors as nature , Infrastructure building , New fiscal policy etc.
