Two Wheeler brand wise sales

With sales volume of 1,212,996 units as compared to 1,163,465 units in December 2014, Two Wheeler industry registered an overall growth of 4.3%.

Hero, the market leader in India registered a negative growth of 1.6% and sold 506,632 units in December 2014 as compared to 514,830 units in December last year. Hero’s market share came down from 44% to 42% while it’s competitor and earlier business partner Honda registered 16% growth by selling 329,845 units in December 2014 as compared to 282,684 units in December last year. TVS maintained its third position with 18.7% growth and sold 157,438 units vehicle, whereas Bajaj who seemed struggling in domestic market marked 21% degrowth in Motorcycle segment. However, Bajaj is having aggressive plan to gain double digit growth in the year 2015. Yamaha also registered positive growth of 12% and Royal Enfield, on the other hand, is enjoying success at 47% growth rate with increased sales from 19,067 units to 28,179 units.

Suzuki is another example who registered double digit growth of 28% by selling 24,011 units as compared to 18,732 units in December 2013. Mahindra & Mahindra was looking to grow faster in domestic segment but it is still struggling in Two Wheeler segment, on the contrary Piaggio, who recently launched and entered into trendy segment posted 88% growth. Harley Davidson and UK based Triumph are major players in premium segment bikes with 370 units and 86% slaes respectively in December 2014.

Motorcycle and scooter sales in indiaIn 2014, September was the best month for  sales due to festive season in India. Every month of year 2014 post better sales compare to year 2013.

Indian Two Wheeler sales analysis of 2014 and market shareIn 2014, Hero Motocorp kept market leader position with 40% market share. Hero is trying to make its presence more effective in Scooter segment also. Honda with 26% and TVS with 13% market share are second and third player in Two Wheeler segment.

Scooter sales analysisScooter Segment:

In Scooter segment, Honda is a market leader with 54% market share by selling 208,465 units in December 2014 as compared to 167,147 units in December 2013. Mahindra registered impressive growth of 43% and it is heavily promoting Gusto Scooters on electronic media. The sales figures of other brands in December 2014 are: Hero – 74,509 units, TVS 51,575 units, Suzuki – 17,983 units, Yamaha – 15,590 units, Mahindra – 4,136 units and Piaggio – 1,901 units.

Bike sales in IndiaIn Motorcycle segment, Hero is a market leader since a long time capturing almost half of the market share. It sold 432,532 units in December 2014 as compared to 453,532 units in December 2013. Honda registered 5% growth by selling 121,380 units and the aggregate market share of both the brands comes to 60%. TVS is also giving healthy competition to other OEMs and it registered sales growth of 20%. Mahindra needs to redefine its Product Portfolio and enhance its Dealer Network strategy along with its dealers seeking for efficient implementation of those strategies. With a strong potential seen in premium segment bikes, Royal Enfield scored excellent growth.
