The total sales of commercial vehicles in domestic market for the first half of financial year 2013-14 drop by 16% at 279,354 units as against 333,599 units sold during the same period of previous financial year.

The medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment witnessed the sales decline by 28% at 82,706 units in the first half of FY 2013-14 against 115,446 units during the same period of previous financial year. The light commercial vehicle segment sold 196,648 units during  HY1 FY 2013-14 against 218,153 units sold during the same period of FY 2012-13.

Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles

  • Tata motors sales dropped by 26% in this segment for HY FY 2013-14 at 49,837 units against 67,771 units sold during the same period of FY 2012-13.
  • Ashok Leyland witnessed 35% decrease of sales for HY FY 2013-14 at 17,466 units against 26,679 units sold during the same period of FY 2012-13.
  • Eicher recorded 24% drop while AMW’s sale decline by 26%.
  • SML Isuzu is struggling in this segment as their sales got reduced to half.
  • Mahindra Truck and Bus Limited records 33% decline and occupy the bottom of the pile.

The market share of Ashok Leyland dropped by 2 points to 21% for HY1 FY 2013-14 from 23% in HY1 FY 2012-13. Tata Motors leads the segment with 60% market share.

Light Commercial Vehicles

  • Tata motor’s sales of 103,803 units in HY1 FY 2013-14 registers 17% drop against 125,636 units sold during the same period of FY 2012-13.
  • Mahindra and Mahindra posts positive growth of 5% in this segment at 70,417 units for HY1 FY 2013-14 against 67,364 units sold during the same period of FY 2012-13.
  • Force Motors decline continues in  this segment as their sales went down by 37% in HY1 FY2013-14 at 1,618 units against 2,554 units in HY1 FY 2012-13.
  • Piaggio recorded 86% growth with 3,308 units against 1,782 units for HY1 FY 2012-13.

Mahindra and Mahindra improved their share to 36% while Tata Motors lost 5 points and saw their share dropped down to 53%.

    First of all,compliments for this analysis.

    I think, you should divide LCV in further segments to give correct pictures of market shares like SCV, LCV, ICV. This way this analysis would be me interesting and useful.

  2. Declining sales of commercial vehicles reflect on falling economic activities in this year. Hope to see revival in H2.

  3. I can feel the pressure of selling HCV in this market. Does the silver line visible?
