The overall passenger vehicle segment had witnessed 7.22% decline in sales during Q1 FY 2013-14 as against Q1 FY 2012-13. A total of 607,469 units were sold during the period as against 654,726 units during the same period of the previous financial year. The overall economy has taken a tumble, and now with the increase in Petrol Price by 1.55 Rs on 14-July-2013 will serve as a costly affair to manufacturers as well as buyers.
Maruti Suzuki , the biggest passenger vehicle OEM in India gained some share during the period and now holds 40.4% market share in passenger vehicle segment. Hyundai remains at the second place with 15.7%. Tata Motors market share had been reduced to 8.7% in Q1 FY 2013-14, which was 11.6% during Q1 FY 2012-13.
Car Segment
Total of 434,551 units were sold in the Car Segment during Q1 of financial year 2013-14 registering a 10.41% reduction in sales as compared with 485,026 units during the same period of previous financial year.
In the Car Segment, the market leader Maruti Suzuki saw their sales fall by 3.79% during the Q1 FY 2013-14 as against Q1 FY 2012-13. But they have improved their market share to 47.87% in Q1 FY 2013-14 from 44.58% in Q1 FY 2012-13 The most significant improvement has been recorded by Honda with a strong performance of Amaze posted a 44.56% growth in Q1 FY 2013-14 against Q1 FY 2012-13. They also saw their market share rise to 6.65% during the period.
Sorry state continues for Tata Motors as they witnessed their sales declined by 44.58%.Market share also fall at 6.32% in Q1 FY 2012-13 as against 10.22% market share during Q1 FY 2012-13. Skoda is another struggling manufacturer and is hit with a 49.56% decline in sales. While Fiat, Nissan and Toyota are all unable to make any impact in the market.
Utility/SUV Segment
The Utility/SUV segment has witnessed a 5.38% growth during the first quarter of financial year 2013-14. A total of 123,909 vehicles were sold during the period as against 117,597 units sold during the same period of FY 2012-13.
Mahindra remains to be the leader in this segment, but witnessed a 2.81% reduction is sales for Q1 FY 2013-14 against Q1 FY 2012-13. Renault’s Duster is performing well in this segment and had sold 15,044 units in the quarter.
In utility segment of passenger vehicles with 45.98% market share Mahindra is the leader. Renault now hold 12.14% share in this segment.
Van Segment
Overall sales of vans in Q1 FY 2013-14 stood at 49,009 units as against 52,121 units in the same period of previous financial year which registered a decline of -5.97%. Maruti Suzuki’s sales had declined by -19.14% while Tata Motors registered a positive growth of 12.86% in this segment.
In Q1 FY 2013-14, Maruti Suzuki had saw their share in this segment came down to 46.32% from 53.58% in Q1 FY 2012-13 while Tata Motors gained some share during the period to 38.20% from 31.83%.
