The cumulative sales of Trucks, including exports during the period April to February for Financial Year 2012-13 is 624599 units. This is a 7840 trucks less sold when compared with same period of last fiscal year where the sales were 632439 units.
Truck segment has shown 25% of de growth in M&HCV (> GVW 7.51ton), mainly due to low investment in Infra sector, ban in mining and low market sentiments. Meanwhile the LCV (up to 7.5ton) segment has shown 2% growth in April-Feb 2012-13 compare to last FY in a same period.
M&HCV segment share has also decrease in current fiscal year. LCV segment has increased their share from 58% to 68%. Recently M&M has announced to focus in small truck segment. Plan to develop new platform which compete Tata Ace and Ashok Leyland Dost.
Segment Overview : M&HCV (>7.5ton)
For the period April-February FY 2012-13, sales in domestic market decreased by 25.4%. A massive 67526 less trucks were sold in this segment compared with same period last fiscal. Leaders Tata Motors sales are down by 32%, while all other players had also shown negative figures during the time.
Tata Motors continue as the market leader in M&HCV truck segment but lost around 6% its market share. Ashok Leyland has increased its market share in M&HCV which is positive signs for the company. VECV also improved its position in terms of market share. AMW, SML Isuzu, Mahindra Navistar and Volvo are stagnant. Newcomers BharatBenz has sold around 1200 units in current FY so far.
In Feb 2013, Tata Motors has disappointed and decrease its sales. Other players like AMW, SML Isuzu, Mahindra Navistar, MAN has also shown negative sales figures. BharatBenz and Volvo has given positive indication in Feb 2013.
Segment Overview : LCV (upto 7.5ton)
LCV continues its positive sales through this fiscal year. For the period April to February of 2012-13, 426,613 trucks were sold in comparison to 366,842 during the same period last year. This is a 16.2% increase in sales. Tata Motors take the honors of market leader in this segment as well with flagship product of Tata Ace. All other LCV players except Piaggio has increased its sales in Feb 2013 compare to Feb 2012.
Cumulatively Tata Motors is a market leader in LCV segment with 59% market share. M&M is number two after Tata Motors with 30% market share. The biggest downfall is of Piaggio due to segment shift to small four wheeler vehicles. Ashok Leyland Dost performance is superior in its segment.
Month wise sales of Feb 2013 is also positive and giving positive hope to industry. Still there is big gap between top player and second players. Overall segment has shown positive sign of market.
