Indian Commercial Vehicles showed 6% growth in Production, 4% in Sales, and 19% in Exports in H1 FY 2026, which is an excellent improvement compared to Q1 FY 2026. ACG forecasted in our earlier articles that after Q2, the government will spend funds on development, which is one reason for the growth in the Indian Commercial vehicle Market.

Tata Motors is the market leader in the Indian CV segment, but is facing challenges from its competitors. Mahindra sold 10K units more in H1 FY 2026 compared to FY 2025. Ashok Leyland, Eicher, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, SML Isuzu, Force Motors, Isuzu Motors, and Volvo sold more vehicles than Tata Motors in H1 FY 2026 compared to the previous year’s H1.

Tata Motors is pursuing a multi-level strategy to increase its market share. The company is launching new models, developing an EV drivetrain, acquiring businesses, making Organizational changes, implementing Digitization, and engaging in aggressive marketing.

Electric Commercial vehicle OEMs like TI Clean Mobility, Toyota, JBM Auto, PMI, Pinnacle Mobility, and Switch Mobility registered double-digit sales growth in H1 FY 2026. Olectra sales declined but are expected to grow in H2 FY 2026. Scania CV sales more than doubled in the first half of FY 2026.

Indian MHCV Sales Q2 FY 2026:

Indian CV sales grew by 7% in Q2 FY 2026; however, Q1 FY 2026 was negative. The H1 FY 2026 Indian commercial Vehicle sales also increased by 1.9%. The market momentum is expected to continue for the next half year of FY 2026. The detailed report is available under our subscription package.

Indian LCV Sales Q2 FY 2026:

LCV sales showed impressive growth of 10% in Q2 FY 2026, compared to only 0.4% in Q1 FY 2026.

Indian CV brand-wise Market Share:

Tata Motors, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, and Eicher control over 90% of the market share. Other OEMs Switch Mobility, Isuzu Motors, JBM Auto, PMI, TI Clean Mobility, Toyota, Pinnacle Mobility, Scania, Daimler, Blue Energy, IPl Tech, Propel, and Olectra are growing players, especially in the EV CV segment.

Indian Commercial Vehicle Competitor Tracking:

Due to the positive market sentiment and released news, funds supported increased sales of all major OEMs in the second quarter of the current Financial year.

The gap between Tata Motors’ and Mahindra’s sales is narrowing in the CV segment. A similar pattern has been noticed with Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland.

Overview of Truck Pricing:

The Indian Truck Pricing Strategy report is an exclusive, detailed report. We have maintained the data since 2008. Model-wise pricing data is crucial for all truck industry stakeholders because it provides sensitive analysis. Depending on the Model, the truck price increased between 30% and 50% on average.

We have covered different Drivetrain Truck technologies:

ICE Truck

Electric Truck

CNG Truck

LNGTruck

In our latest study, optimizing the price of Electric trucks can increase sales from 10 to 16%, and ICE and other fuel types can grow between 12 and 18%.

The brands need to understand the price broadly, not only the number of people who need to pay to get the Truck. Several factors need to be understood before deciding on the price. Willingness to pay is the key to pricing; competitor pricing benchmarking is used only for reference. In practice, it has been seen that competitor pricing is the only criterion for making the final call on pricing. Ultimately, the value OEMs give the customer is the key; there is no expensive or affordable truck at the point of fleet owners or logistics companies.

Every Truck Model differs from the others, even within the same brand. We have covered the following Truck Brands:

Tata Motors

Ashok Leyland

BharatBenz (Daimler India Commercial Vehicle)

Eicher Trucks

Volvo Trucks

Propel

IPLTech

Euler Motors

EKA

Scania

Montra

Maruti Suzuki

Mahindra Trucks

SML Isuzu

iBoard

Blue Energy

The variables that need to be considered are:

What is the application of the trucks?

What are the specifications and features?

Spare parts cost, including Wear & tear and availability

Mileage

AMC, if there are any, typically for the Tipper segment or specific applications like Ports

Buyers trust

Brand image and reputation

Suitability for Application or terrain

Resale price

Final Invoice Value or transaction price

Once all factors are considered appropriately, the price can be optimized effectively.

When Daimler (Mercedes-Benz—Actros Tipper) Trucks launched in India, their price was a bit higher than that of Volvo trucks, creating the perception that Daimler was more premium. Similarly, when the Bharatbenz Brand was launched, its price was slightly higher than Tata Motors because DICV wanted a premium Truck image compared to Tata and Ashok Leyland in the HDT segment.

Similarly, MAN launched its CLA range in India at a high price compared to Indian OEMs like Eicher, Tata Motors, and Ashok Leyland, but low compared to Volvo Trucks. MAN called this its Budget truck Strategy. However, Munich lost a lot on every MAN truck sale, and the MAN Munich cost centre absorbs this loss.

Every OME has a different pricing strategy.

Indian Commercial vehicles have grown impressively in the last five years. Indian Commercial vehicles showed a 7.8 percent CAGR between FY 2020 and FY 2024. In FY 2025, it is expected to show minor degrowth and adjust to the market correction. 0.99 million and 0.46 million units of Commercial vehicles sold in FY 2024 and H1 FY 2025. ACG expects that FY 2025 will register minor degrowth.

Check our Quarterly Report and Data Subscription Plan here.

Brand Wise Market Share:

Tata Motors leads the Indian Commercial Vehicle Market with a 36 percent market share, but has lost 6 percent in the last five years. The company is launching new products in each segment, including Electric Commercial vehicles.

Daimler’s Indian Commercial vehicles could not register growth in the last 5 years. The Indian CV market showed impressive growth, but DICV remains stagnant at a 2 percent market share H1 FY 2025. The price is also very competitive after the discount.

DICV could get the exact recipe from Eicher Motors, which has increased its market share from 6 to 8 percent. It utilizes the optimization of Volvo’s product portfolio. Daimler India can also write success stories with Daimler Truck AG’s support in Product Strategy.

BharatBenz is in medium—and Heavy-Duty commercial vehicles (MHCV). The Market share in the MHCV segment fluctuated between 8 and 6 percent from FY 2020 to H12025.

The Indian MHCV Industry’s CAGR between FY 2020 and FY 2024 is 13.6 percent, and Daimler India CV’s CAGR is 5.1 percent. This is below half of the Industry’s CAGR.

The company established a presence in the Bus segment. However, BharatBenz needs to penetrate the Small- and medium-sized truck fleet market.

Eicher was a leader in the Light and Medium-Duty truck segment but struggled in the HCV segment. After a JV with Volvo, Eicher has a significant presence in the Tipper and tractor-trailer segment.

Maruti just increased its market share by 1 percent in H1 FY 2025. The main reason is that the company cannot launch new products and variants to target the new Truck segment.

Ashok Leyland has successfully upgraded and launched new Rigid Haulage trucks and Buses to match product-market fit.

Premium Commercial Vehicle Segment: Volvo and Scania:

Scania and Volvo are Premium Brands in India. The trend in premium vehicle sales was almost the same, but the volumes differed. One reason Volvo is leading the segment is that it has been in India longer than Scania. 2008, the Volvo truck price was between 50K and 60K Euro INR.

Indian Commercial Vehicle Segment Share Analysis:

The Small Commercial Vehicle segment is the largest in India. The SCV segment share has declined by 8 percent. With a vast network of quality roads, demand for Light, Medium, and Heavy Commercial vehicles has increased. Long-distance road transportation is becoming popular. LCV, MCV, and HCV have better access to destination points.

Indian Small Commercial Vehicle Market:

The Small Commercial Vehicle market has experienced steady growth, with a CAGR of +4.7 percent, indicating positive momentum in the Indian CV industry. However, this growth is lower than that of other CV segments.

Sales volume grew from FY 2020 to FY 2023, then declined slightly in FY 2024.

Competitive Landscape:

Mahindra’s market share increased from 46 percent in FY 2020 to 46 percent, demonstrating strong growth and leadership in the segment. The main driver of this growth is its strong position in the pickup Truck segment.

Tata Motors has seen a significant decline in market share from FY 2022, currently holding 29 percent, indicating a competitive challenge. The market share gap between Mahindra and Tata Motors is increasing.

Ashok Leyland has maintained a stable market presence, with a 13 percent market share, demonstrating consistent growth of 10 percent or more.

Maruti and Force Motors have smaller shares —7% and 4%, respectively —with minimal fluctuations over the observed period. Electric Trucks are successfully penetrating this segment.

Indian Light Commercial Vehicle Market:

The Indian LCV market grew at a CAGR of +5.9% between FY 2020 and FY 2024, showing steady expansion. FY 2024 sales increased by +26% compared to FY 2020, showing strong momentum.

Competitive Landscape:

Mahindra and Tata are two major players holding more than 65 percent of the market. Tata’s market share dropped significantly from 50 to 29 percent, indicating a significant decline.

SML Isuzu, Ashok Leyland, and Force Motors are other segment players.
