Indian Truck Market Sales declined at 8.74% in Q1 FY 2013-14
Indian truck market observed 8.74% decline in sales in the first quarter of the financial year 20123-14. A total of 141,701 trucks were sold in India during the Q1 FY 2013-14 as against 155,282 units sold during the same period of previous financial year.
The M&HCV registered a 17.58% reduction in sales with 43,372 units sold during the Q1 of FY 2013-14. The segment had sold 52,623 units during Q1 FY 2012-13.
Among the manufacturers, Tata Motors witnessed 10.58% decline in sales while Ashok Leyland’s sales fell by 30.01%. SML Isuzu is the worst hit manufacturer in the segment where there sales has been shrunk by 42.63%. Mahindra Trucks and Buses are also slapped with a 35.02% reduction is sales.
Tata Motors remains the market leader in Indian M&HCV segment leaving behind their competitors by far after gaining a few points from 56.82% in Q1 FY 2012-13 to 61.64% in Q1FY 2013-14. Ashok Leyland’s market share has come down to 19.24% in Q1 FY2013-14 from 22.65% in Q1 FY 2012-13. VECV-Eicher the third largest manufacturer in this segment holds 13.04% market share at the end of Q1 FY 2013-134.
Rigid vs Tractor
The sales of Tractors had declined in the first quarter of financial year 2013-14.
The light commercial vehicles had also witnessed a weakened demand during the period and is slapped with a 4.21% decline. Total of 98,333 LCVs were sold in Q1 FY 2013-14 as against 102,659 units sold in the same period of last financial year.
Mahindra and Mahindra had register a 10.89% growth in sales for Q1FY 2013-14 as against same period of last financial year. Piaggio also registered a 25.57% growth where Tata and Ashok Leyland saw de-growth at 11.09 and 10.89 percentage respectively.
