Tata Motors on a downfall as September 2013 sales fall by 33%

For September 2013, the total sales of Tata Motors stood at 50,427 units, declined at 33% against 75,773 units sold during September 2012. Total domestic sales stood at 45,998 units in September 2013, 35% dip as against September 2012 sales of 70,322 units.


The year to date cumulative sales including exports for Tata Motors for FY 2013-14 stood at 304,742 units against 409,898 units during the same period of previous financial year ,registering 26% decline. The year to date domestic sales is down by 27% at 279,707 units against 382,149 units sold during the same period of previous financial year.

Commercial Vehicles

Commercial vehicles sales for September 2013 stood at 33,119 units against 48,680 units in September 2012 registering 32% decline. The year to date sales declined by 17% for the April to September period of FY 2013-14 at 209,972 units in comparison with 251,507 units sold during same period of previous financial year.

In the LCV segment 24,304 units were sold during September 2013 registering 27% de-growth against September 2012 sales of 33,393 units. The year to date sales for FY 2013-14 stood at 151,851 units which is 13% less in comparison with sales of 173,810 units during the same period of FY 2012-13.

The M&HCV segment continues to crumble for Tata Motors as sales are down by 42% with 8,815 units sold against 15,287 units sold during September 2012. The year to date sales for the April to September period of FY 2013-14 stood at 58,121 units against 77,697 units in the same period of FY 2012-13, marking a 25% decline.

Passenger Vehicles

The downfall continues for Tata Motors in passenger segment as September sales fall by 41% at 12,879 units against 21,652 units sold during September 2012. The year to date sales for April to September period of FY 2013-14 is down by 47% with 69,735 units against 130,642 units in the same period of FY 2012-13.

The sales of Nano, Indica and Indigo in September 2013 were 8761 units, decline by 43% as against September 2012 sales of 17,133 units. The year to date sales in FY 2013-14 marked 48% decline with sales of 54,546 units against 105,589 units during same period of previous financial year.

Sales of Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture range stood at 3,113 units in September 2013, 31% less than the sales of September 2012 of 4,519 units. The year to date sales for declined by 39% at 15,189 units against 25,053 units in same period of FY 2012-13.

  1. I own a Tata Indica and know why their sales have declined. It’s a crap car!!!
    We’ve had so many bad experiences with it and the customer support is terrible.

  2. I had Tata Indigo for 4 years and finally I got rid of it. Very poor quality & terrible after sales services. The downfall was expected as Indian market is flooded with better cars.
