Indian Passenger Vehicle sales decline at 8% in July 2013 – Car,SUV/MUV & Vans

The Indian Passenger vehicle market for the month of July 2013 witnessed an 8% drop in sales compared to July 2012. A total of 186,943 units were sold in July 2013 against 203,765 units were sold in July 2012.


Total sales for car segment stood at 131,868 units in July 2013 as against 142,326 units in July 2012, registering 7% decline. The segment share of Cars got 1 point up in July 2013 and stay at 71% as compared with 70% in July 2012. Sales units for Utility segment stood at 37,010 in July 2013 and registered 17% decline as compared against July 2012 sales of 44,844. The segment share also dropped to 20% which was 22% in July 2012. Van sales had registered positive growth of 9% in July 2013 at 18,065 units as against 16,595 units in July 2012. Segment share also improved to 10% as in comparison with 8% of July 2012.

So far in this financial year the sales are dropping month after month.

Car Segment

The car segment leaders Maruti registered 11% growth in July 2013 at 56,851 cars as against 63,040 cars in July 2012. Honda has their sales at 11,091 units in July 2013 which is a 156% increase in comparison with July 2012 sales of 4333 units.

The worrying signs pile up for Tata Motors as their July sales for year 2013 are massively down at 60% at 8546 units against 21,153 units for July 2012. Another manufacturer to have suffered a massive loss in the segment is Ford, who registered a 49% dip in July 2013 at 3095 units against 6120 units in July 2012.
Volkswagen India sales had also declined at 12% as they sold 4739 units for July 2013 against 5357 units in July 2012.

Utility Segment

Mahindra had their sales of utility vehicles decline by 30% for July 2013 at 14,503 units against 20,750 units in July 2012. It is evident that Ford with their launch of EcoSport is doing well against their rivals Mahindra and Renault as their sales for July 2013 reach 4772 units. Ford’s market share for July 2013 climb to 13% while Mahindra’s share came down to 39% from 46% in July 2012. Renault is also doing well in this segment as their sales grew by 77% at 2190 units in July 2013 against 1237 units in July 2012.

Vans

In Van segment Tata register growth of 16% in July 2013 at 7837 units against 6879 units in July 2012. Maruti Suzuki sales slip by 10% in July 2013 at 7543 units against 6879 units in July 2012. Mahindra’s sales stood at 2685 units for July 2013 against 2967 units in July 2012. Tata Motors had got the best of Matuti Suzuki and became market leader in this segment.

  1. Though today, many of OEM’s relying on 1 or 2 products; future is highly demanding for horizontal product line ups. . .
